I Need A Miracle

Can the world survive a benevolent god?

A Foggy Outline podcast | Created by Matt Boothman

In this upcoming micro-fiction podcast, every episode is a prayer, some prayers are granted, and a prayer granted can turn the world upside down.

Each episode, each prayer, is a single desperate moment of a life in another world. A world shaped by the divine. The voices we hear know an omnipotent being is listening. They know not all pleas are granted – but some are. And they believe in the benevolence of their god.

Desperation and calculation, need and desire render each new character in vivid shades. And episode by episode, a miraculous yet tumultuous world is assembled in glimpses.

For fans of

Intimate & immersive

You, the listener, stand in for a silently listening god. Hear brazen demands for divine intervention and vulnerable, secret pleas for deliverance. Whose requests would you grant and why? Does anyone deserve a miracle?

Intricate & intriguing

Which pleas are granted? How does the listening being decide? What are the Upheavals that regularly wrack this world? What threatens to rise from the Depths? And can any being with ultimate power truly be benevolent?

Rich & relatable

With just ten minutes and one voice per episode, I Need A Miracle dives deep into the many kinds of wanting, and the many ways of asking for help. How would you make your case to an omnipotent being who grants some miracles but not others, based on ineffable criteria? The petitioners’ struggles will ring true to many listeners from our own world of hoarded, jealously guarded resources.

The format

Each episode of I Need A Miracle is a monologue lasting 5–15 minutes, with subtle environmental sound design. A new character every episode. Never the same character twice. Always addressing a plea to a listening deity – which never makes a sound.

In your benevolence, hear my plea

Hi, I’m Matt Boothman and I need a miracle.

I’ve written the first 12-episode season of I Need A Miracle, and secured the support of a fantastic producer. Now I need your help to make this season the best it can be.

These 12 monologues introduce the premise of the show, establish the fundamentals of the setting, and set up a number of mysteries that converge to bring the world to a precipitous turning point.

I’m now seeking series and episode sponsors to offer funds in return for credit and promotion.

If that sounds like you, or someone you know, my plea is for you to contact me.

The future

In future seasons of I Need A Miracle, a variety of guest writers pick up the baton and expand the story of the world.
